FATF recognises Pakistan’s efforts, extends grey list deadline till June

Lahore: Financial Action Task Force (FATF) President Dr Marcus Pleyer, on Thursday, while recognising Pakistan’s efforts in taking action on FATF’s plan extended the deadline for Pakistan’s grey list review till June 2021 – a news source reported. Making the announcement at the end of the four-day plenary meeting, he stated that according to FATF’s review. Pakistan has completed 24 of 27 points pertaining to terror financing. He also added considerable progress has been made but some deficiencies remain which is why the deadline has been extended. He also dismissed any ideas of currently putting Pakistan in the black list. Pleyer further stated that the FATF will continue to monitor financial crimes and terror financing which have become more complicated due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. FATF’s plenary meeting had begun on February 22 and the watchdog had reviewed the steps taken by Pakistan against terror financing.
