Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is planning to install rain harvesting wells in mosques and homes to tackle the issue of water shortage, a news source reported. According to RDA Chairman Arif Abbasi, two rain harvesting wells will be set up at the offices of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), as well as in a small mosque in Liaquat Bagh. The purpose, as per Abbasi, is to encourage citizens to adopt the practice through their own efforts. RDA Chairman said that the authority is considering making it compulsory for private house owners to install rain harvesting wells on their land. The government boards concerned will approve the policy in the coming month. RDA also plans to utilise the water used in mosques for irrigating plantations in Liaquat Bagh. This water will be saved in a tank, and then used for watering the plants. Abbasi hoped that these measures would help in creating awareness on saving water.
